What do I need to have to apply for a Class B CDL?

Like other CDLs, you must already have a regular driver’s license to apply for a Class B CDL. The minimum age is 18. You will also need to pass a written exam and a road test. The written part is divided into three sections:

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: This section covers the basic rules of the road, signs, and signals. AIR BRAKES: This section covers the specific air brake system used on Class B vehicles.

After passing the written exam and getting a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (a medical exam), you will be issued a commercial learner permit (CLP) that allows you to practice driving with a licensed commercial driver. What is the New ELDT rule?

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is a new rule requiring all commercial truck and bus drivers to complete an approved training program before getting their CDL. In other words, you can no longer train on your own or with a friend or family member. You must complete an approved training program, such as the one offered at Ferrari Driving School. ELDT is a two-part requirement.

The first one is a theory course, which covers all the material you need to know to pass a 60-question multiple-choice written exam. You must get at least 80% to pass. The second part is a practical course, where you will put your skills to the test by driving with a licensed commercial driver. While there are no minimum requirements for the practical course, you will be evaluated on your skills and knowledge.

But you don’t have to worry; we offer a comprehensive course that covers all the material you need to know to meet the ELDT requirements. Our experienced and certified instructors will help you every step of the way. After completing the ELDT, Ferrari Driving School will submit your application to the national registry. Once approved, Ferrari Driving School, as a DMV-recognized, third-party tester, will be able to give you the road test without you having to go to the DMV.
